Jr. Camp Counselors assist Zoo Camp counselors at the award-winning Zoo Camp. They lead songs, play games, and assist young campers with arts and crafts while ensuring their safety.

Requirements
- Current junior high or high school student
- Enjoy working with young children and are willing to act silly during games and while singing songs
- Take direction and work as part of a team

Time Commitment
JCCs will select their summer volunteering dates after their interview. Please note that there is limited space and enrollment is administered on a first-come, first-served basis. JCCs must volunteer for three or more full weeks of the summer. The weeks do not need to be consecutive.
Summer Camp: June 17 – August 23
- Week 1: June 17 – 21
- Week 2: June 24 – 28
- Week 3: July 1 – 5 (no camp on July 4)
- Week 4: July 8 – 12
- Week 5: July 15 – 19
- Week 6: July 22 – 26
- Week 7: July 29 – Aug 2
- Week 8: August 5 – 9
- Week 9: August 12 – 16
- Week 10: August 19 – 23
Shifts are from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM
Interviews
Junior Camp Counselors must interview with Zoo staff. There are two group interview dates available:
- May 19 at 11:00 AM
- May 21 at 4:00 PM
Training
JCCs will attend two training days. The first is a run-through of Camp with all staff, and the second will include policies and procedures.
Training 1: May 26 at 10:00 AM
Training 2 (choose one):
- June 1 at 10:00 AM
- June 7 at 4:00 PM
- June 8 at 3:30 PM
Fees
Annual Fees (fees cover training, appreciation events, and uniform):
- $85 New Teen Volunteers
- $45 Returning Teen Volunteers
No fee for teens after their second year. Please contact us if you have extenuating circumstances that affect your ability to pay.
