Bring your herd, flock, or pack to the Santa Barbara Zoo!

Are you looking for a wild field trip experience? The outdoor learning experience at the Santa Barbara Zoo complements your in-class lessons or study projects while your students get first-hand knowledge of the natural world. Enhance your trip with a giraffe feeding or a train ride. See more information about these options below.

Field Trip Reservations

Early reservations are recommended as a limited number of groups are admitted each day. Reservations are booked in the order in which they are received. Group size must be at least 20 for field trip reservations.

Confirmations will be sent via email. If you do not receive your confirmation within one week of sending in your reservation, please contact us by email or phone: (805) 962-5339, ext. 128.

Field Trip Options

Add one or more of these options to make it a field trip they won’t forget.

Giraffe Experience

Get up close to the Zoo’s tallest residents when you feed the giraffes by hand. Zoo educators will answer your questions about giraffes and ensure that your students become giraffe experts!

Cost: $5/person


Fresh lunch selections are available for your group, and your order can be picked up at a pre-arranged time from the Ridley-Tree House Restaurant. Zoo lunches must be ordered in advance; please contact us for more information.

Walking Tour

With a focus on conservation and animal care, your guide will lead you on a one-hour tour through the Zoo and share their knowledge of our animals’ natural and personal histories.

Cost: $23/student, $40/adult
For every six students, one adult chaperone ticket is free.

Zoo Train Rides

Don’t miss a ride on the Zoo Train! Each round trip takes about 10-12 minutes and provides a peek at behind-the-scenes areas, as well as a new perspective on many of your favorite animal exhibits.

Train rides must be scheduled at the front gate upon your arrival; no advance scheduling is available. Certain events such as rain, maintenance, or unforeseen situations may affect train availability.

Cost: $4/person. Children under 2 ride free.

ZOO4U Scholarship Program

A limited number of scholarships are available through the ZOO4U fund, which provides significantly reduced field trip admission for students attending Title One schools serving children recognized as economically disadvantaged and/or at-risk.

Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Application must be received at least four weeks before the desired field trip date. If you meet the qualifications, please click on the button below to reserve your field trip.
