Meet Santa at the Zoo
Nov. 30 & Dec. 1, Dec. 7 & 8, Dec. 14 & 15, and Dec. 21 & 22 (weekends in December)
After traveling all the way from the North Pole, Santa has arrived at the Zoo! Santa will be at the Zoo every Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. until December 22, weather permitting. Meet and take your picture with him in the Kallman Children’s Garden!

Cost: free with Zoo admission. Souvenir photos available for purchase.
Snow Leopard Festival & Sledding at the Zoo
Sunday, December 8
Learn about the beautiful and endangered snow leopard and what you can do to help save them at this one-of-a-kind family festival. More than 80 tons of snow creates sledding runs and a children’s play area, and is placed in exhibits for snow leopards, elephants, and other animals to romp in. There are also snow-related arts and crafts and more.
10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (9:00 a.m. entry for SB Zoo Members)
Cost: $5 for sledding/snow area access. Sledding for children 12 & under.
Gemina Book Signing at the Zoo
Saturday, December 14
1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
One of the Santa Barbara Zoo’s most recognizable animals is now the subject of a new children’s picture book. Gemina the Crooked-Neck Giraffe, written and illustrated by Los Angeled-based author Karen B. Winnick (Barn Sneeze, Mr. Lincoln’s Whiskers), is a colorfully illustrated, 40-page, hardbound book measuring 8.5 by 11 inches, priced at $15.95. All book sale monies directly benefit the Santa Barbara Zoo. The signing will be held at the Zoo Gift Shop near the entrance courtyard. Books wil be available for purchase.
Cost: free with Zoo admission. A 20-minute pass is available for those wishing to only attend the signing.
Winter Zoo Camp
December 23-27 (no camp Dec. 25) & December 30-January 3 (no camp Jan. 1)
9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
The Zoo’s award-winning Zoo Camp has a special program during Winter Break featuring age-appropriate themed programs for kids for ages 3 to 12 and includes games, behind-the-scenes visits, up-close animal introductions, hands-on science, and crafts. Cost: $45/day Non-members; $40/day SB Zoo Members. Register for 5 or more days and receive $20 off total.
Open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
Tuesday & Wednesday, December 24 & 25
10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Families can create a new tradition by visiting the Santa Barbara Zoo on Christmas Eve or on Christmas Day. Keepers keep things jolly with special talks, and holiday enrichment for the animals.
Early closure: General admission ticket sales end at 2:30 p.m., Membership admission ends at 3:00 p.m.; Zoo closes early at 3:30 p.m. on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Cost: free with Zoo admission.
New Year's Eve Overnight for Kids
December 31-January 1
5:30 p.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Let your kids swing into the New Year in wild style! Drop them off for a fun-filled night at the Zoo. They’ll have a pizza dinner, check out what’s cookin’ in our animal kitchen, tour the Zoo at night, eat a pancake breakfast, and much more. Sorry parents, this fun night is for kids only!
