California's greatest wealth lies in the abundance and diversity of its natural resources. Many of California's native species of plants and animals face an uncertain future. It is only through the concern and commitment of our members and donors that we can leave a rich natural legacy for future generations. The Santa Barbara Zoo is committed to making a difference in the natural legacy we leave for our children and all that follow.

Conservation
California has the greatest diversity of plants and animals in the United States. This is a unique opportunity to focus on species of local concern. California Trails is a series of exhibits showcasing the wonderful animals and plants of California, including:
- Condor Country: A new exhibit for the endangered California condor.
- Channel Island fox exhibit: Renovation of the current exhibit.
- Desert Tortoise exhibit: Create a new habitat for the endangered desert tortoise in the area where the current playground is (and provide quiet neighbors for the condors!)
- Los Padres National Forest exhibit: Renovation of the Desert Discovery exhibit with an emphasis on endangered reptiles and amphibians from Los Padres National Forest.
- The Wave: While the California Trails exhibits are being built, we will take the time to improve guest services at the hilltop with new restrooms, concession area, bridal room, and catering kitchen for special events, all located in a new hilltop building.
For the Kids
Saving the earth and its creatures is everyone's concern. The Santa Barbara Zoo is committed to ensuring that the next generation of citizens values the natural world around them. Wild California is especially designed to enhance the Zoo's ability to serve children by learning and playing! Projects for the kids include:
- Discovery Pavilion: A new building to house our conservation education and volunteer programs, as well as our animal care and education staff.
- Conservation Education Programs: Award winning programs will be expanded and enhanced, ready to be used in the Discovery Pavilion. A challenge grant from the Weingart Foundation will help us reach our goal of raising $1 million by December 2007. With only $160,000 more to raise, we are well on our way.
- Kallman Children's Garden and Play Area: A new play area and garden will be created across from the train station, concentrating play in one central area.
