How To Start Volunteering - ZooTeens
Not sure if you are ready for a big commitment? No problem! Our short-term volunteers assist with the Zoo’s special events. There is no yearly time commitment and you don't need to attend an informational meeting. Step 1: Apply OnlineThe 2013 application is closed. The application for summer 2014 will be available January 1 – March 1, 2014.Have an adult (who is not a family member) submit a reference letter. Step 2: Sign Up for an Informational MeetingUpon submitting your application, you will receive a welcome email inviting you and your guardians to attend a ZooTeen Orientation held in February and March. At the orientation, you will learn more about the program from staff and current ZooTeens.
Step 3: Select an Interview DateZooTeen interviews take place in February and March. Upon receiving the online application and reference letter, the Volunteer Office will contact applicants to schedule an interview. See the ZooTeen Timeline to learn more about the application process.
Step 4: Acceptance LetterIn April, applicants accepted into the program will receive a packet of essential documents in the mail.
Step 5: Sign Up for Training DatesZooTeens must attend two days of training (one day in May and one day in June). 2013 ZooTeen Training Schedule Part 1: Select either May 25th or May 26th (must attend one of these).
Step 6: Submit TuitionThe ZooTeen program requires an $80 annual tuition to cover training, uniform, materials, and staff supervision. This will be collected at the May training. Financial assistance is available for volunteers experiencing financial hardship.
Step 7: Start Volunteering!At the June training you will sign up for the three weeks of Summer Zoo Camp you would like to attend. Have the dates you would like to volunteer ready. 2013 Summer Zoo Camp Schedule will be available soon! |
