Then the ZooTeen Program may be the place for you! ZooTeens create outstanding experiences that inspire people to change the world by supporting the Education Department’s Zoo Camp.

As a ZooTeen, you begin your first summer as a Counselor-in-Training (CIT). CITs act as aides to the Camp Counselors during summer, winter, and/or spring Zoo Camp sessions. They lead songs, play games, and assist young campers with their arts and crafts while ensuring their safety.  

First year CITs must commit to volunteering at least six hours per day, Monday through Friday, for three weeks during the summer (the weeks do not have to be concurrent). 

Teens applying should: 

• Be between the ages of 13 – 17 years. 
• Be able to submit one reference letter from an adult who is not a family member.
• Be able to attend all training sessions (one day in May and one day in June). See ZooTeen Timeline for more information.
• Enjoy working with young children and willing to act silly during games and while singing songs.
• Be responsible for the safety and care of younger children.
• Be able to take direction and be part of a team.
• Be able to make at least a three-week commitment during June, July, and/or August (weeks do not have to be concurrent).
