Name:  African grey Parrot

Range:
Central Africa: from Gulf of Guinea Islands and the West Coast to western Kenya and northwestern Tanzania.

Habitat:
Primarily lowland forests but visit savanna, woodland, and open country to feed.

Description:
General plumage pale grey; feathers of the head and neck margined with greyish-white; those of abdomen with dark grey; rump very pale grey; primaries very dark, almost black; facial area whitish; tail red; black bill; pale yellow iris; dark grey legs.

Adaptations/Habitat:
Grey parrots are extremely gregarious and live in flocks composed of several pairs together with their offspring. The grey parrot remains perched in the tops of trees and rarely, if ever, goes down to the ground. They are fast flyers and return each night to a roosting tree. They fly high above tree tops screeching incessantly and follow regular routes in search of food. They are shy birds, but are popular as pets because of their ability to imitate the human voice.

Diet:
Seeds, nuts, fruits, berries. When feeding they prefer to climb from one branch to another rather than fly. They feed in cultivated grain fields as well.
