Name:  Cobalt blue Tarantula

Range:
Burma, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.

Habitat:
Tropical Forests and grasslands.

Description:
These tarantulas are mature at approximately 2 inches, but may reach up to 5 inches. Cobalt blue tarantulas are aptly named for the bright metallic blue sheen covering the legs. Males tend to be smaller and less colorful. Color becomes more vibrant with age.

Adaptations/Habitat:
This nocturnal species spends most of its day hidden in a burrow. The spider comes out at night to hunt for prey or may wait for prey to pass by its burrow. Tarantulas have poor vision, so to detect prey they use their sensitive hairs. Some bristles are adapted to pick up scents.

Breeding/Growth:
Tarantulas may lay between 30-2000 eggs at a time. Eggs are fertilized by the male as they leave the female. The female will form an egg sac and guard and care for it.

Diet:
Anything smaller than itself, such as insects, other spiders, small vertebrates.

Notes:
This is a fast and aggressive species, but bites are rarely serious.
