10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Families and teachers are invited to a day of fun, hands-on science at Science Day at the Zoo. Co-hosted by the Zoo and other local educational organizations, this wild and educational event presents new and exciting science activities for kids from preschool to eighth grade. Families will tackle learning activities and vie for tokens to win fabulous prizes. Teachers can participate to discover standards-based science curriculum to use in their classrooms. Best of all, Science Day at the Zoo is free with Zoo admission for families, and completely free for pre-registered teachers and their families.
Teachers
Looking for some fun, new science activities for the classroom? Science Day at the Zoo has been created specifically with teachers in mind - and teachers and their families receive free Zoo admission on the day of the event* (pre-registration is required by 9/20/10). Teachers who complete activities at all the booths are entered into a drawing for special prizes. All Science Day at the Zoo activities follow California State Standards and many can be replicated in the classroom. Following the event, standards-based science curriculum from all activity booths will be posted here for teachers to use in their classrooms.
*Teachers who do not pre-register must pay regular price for Zoo admission, but are welcome to participate.
Families
Looking for a fun chance to learn something new with your family? Kids young and old will have fun earning tokens as they participate in exciting, science-based activities. You will also hear from Zoo staff about the science happening at the Zoo and in conservation projects conducted throughout Southern California. At the end of the day, you can cash in your tokens for fun prizes!
