Job Title: Maintenance Technician: Horticulture (Full-time)
Schedule: Wednesday-Sunday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Under general direction of the Director of Facilities & Horticulture, and Assistant Director of Facilities & Horticulture, Maintenance Technician: Horticulture performs direct maintenance and light construction for Zoo facilities, and ensures that the Zoo gardens and grounds meet the Zoo's presentation standards for cleanliness and maintenance.
Requirements: Must have a High school diploma or GED and two years' paid experience in horticulture, general maintenance position, or equivalent. A forklift certification and a valid California driver's license with good driving record are desirable. Must work well in a team, have effective oral and written communication skills, ability to interact with the public, and be competent in the use of all common hand and power tools Must have the ability to access all areas of the facility and be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including electric cart, forklift, and two-way radio. Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally and 20 or fewer pounds frequently. This position involves working out-of-doors in all weather conditions.
Compensation: $10-12/hour, DOE
Job Title: Guest Services Operations Supervisor (Full-Time)
Schedule: Thursday– Monday, holidays, and some evenings, usually between hours of 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Schedule may change, based on business needs.
Description: Under general direction of the Director of Guest Services and Guest Services Coordinator, the Guest Services Operations Supervisor oversees Guest Services front line operations, assists in: planning and developing assigned programs; supervising Guest Experience Specialists staffing (GES); oversees Show and show crew (may participate in the show as needed), and focuses on creating positive guest experiences for all visitors. The Guest Services Operations Supervisor encourages, supports, and exemplifies the highest standards to ensure the professionalism of the GES staff so we provide an outstanding Guest Experience to all visiting the Santa Barbara Zoo.
Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have 2 year of supervisory experience in the customer service field, prior cash handling and project management experience. Prior acting experience and stage management experience preferred. Strong team work and self-motivation, as well as an outgoing positive personality are required. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and capability to multi-task effectively and efficiently. Working knowledge of MS Office, attention to detail and excellent time management are necessary. Must be able to work in shared office with constant interruptions, as well as outdoors, accessing most areas of the facility. Must be able to exert force and to lift, push or pull, or otherwise move objects that may exceed 25 lbs. occasionally. Ability to work week-ends and holidays.
Position: Keeper: Elephants (Full-Time)
Schedule: Thursday thru Monday, 7:00am to 4:00pm
Description: The Santa Barbara Zoo is seeking a keeper for our Elephant Team. The person filling this position will carry out all basic aspects of the daily care of the elephants, including, but not limited to: training, enrichment, maintenance of exhibits, and enhancing the guest experience. This position is part of a dynamic and progressive Animal Care team.
Requirements: A strong teamwork ethic and proven enthusiasm is required. You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., and be able to work in a strenuous work environment (near the beach). A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred. A minimum of 2 years large mammal experience at an AZA-accredited institution required. Pachyderm experience is preferred. The ideal candidate would welcome the challenge of regularly participating in the zoo's local field conservation activities including California condor, island fox, and local herp species.
Compensation: The position may be filled at the keeper, or senior keeper level DOE, with wages ranging from $14 to $17/hour.

Job Title: Face Painting Artist (Part-Time)
Schedule: Flexible, 25-hours per week, incl. week-ends,
holidays and for special events.

creatures? Do you like to share your passion and artistic talents with others? We are looking for a creative, outgoing artist who will contribute to enhance our guest experience. Under general direction of the Director of Guest Services, the Face Painting Artist will wow our guests by providing family-friendly face painting designs.
Requirements: Min. 1 year experience in Face Painting & artistic talent. Must be able to provide quality Face Painting in a short time-frame in a potentially fast paced environment. Must be patient, responsible, service oriented, outgoing, with a natural aptitude to relate positively with children. Must have FUN doing face painting and have the ability to work outdoors, access all areas of the facility and negotiate the zoo work environment. Applicant must complete a successful DOJ background check.
