The Zoo is excited to add this litter of baby capybaras to our animal collection, which comes to us from the Alameda Park Zoo in New Mexico. This spring, you can support the Zoo by sponsoring these adorable capybaras for just $40 (regularly $75). Foster Feeder Sponsors receive a welcome packet that includes a personalized certificate, color photo, capybara fact sheet, and recognition on the Zoo’s Foster Feeder Board! Capybaras are the world’s largest rodent and as adults can weigh up to 140 pounds! They inhabit the vegetated swamps east of the Andes Mountains throughout South America where they are often referred to as ‘swamp hogs.’ They have slightly webbed feet that help them swim; capybaras can stay underwater for up to five minutes. In the wild, their diet mainly consists of aquatic plants and they can usually be found in groups of 10-30 individuals.
Take advantage of this limited time offer through May 31, 2010. Foster Feeders make great gifts, or you can buy one for yourself. All the funds received from the Foster Feeder program go straight to our animal food bill. Your support is much appreciated! For more information, contact Jennie Haake by phone (805) 962-5339, ext. 113 or email.

Sponsorship is a great way to recognize a friend or family member and do something that makes you feel good. Also, it may be renewed annually and is fully tax-deductible. Thank you for supporting our conservation and education efforts at the Santa Barbara Zoo.
