Part Time positions generally are up to a max. of 25 hours per work week, with some exceptions for seasonal programs. 

Position: Education Coordinator, Full Time  

Schedule: Must be able to work one day of the weekend, holidays, and some evenings when events are scheduled.

Description: The Santa Barbara Zoo seeks a self-motivated and energetic team player with leadership qualities and creative thinking to join our Education team. The Education Coordinator promotes the Zoo and its mission through planning, developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the Zoo’s education programs.

Requirements: The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree (preferably in liberal arts, an education emphasis, conservation, biology, other life sciences) or equivalent experience and a minimum of one year's experience working with children in a formal or informal setting, successfully facilitating education programs (including but not limited to outdoor education, interpretive programs, and classroom teaching) preferably in a zoo, aquarium, museum or nature center setting.

Must be self-motivated, have excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills, demonstrate initiative, and be a problem solver. Applicant must be able to stand/walk for up to eight continuous hours and access all areas of the facility. 

Compensation: $14/hour

 


Position: Teller, Week-End

 

Schedule: Saturday & Sunday, year round, 8:00-5:00PM (hours may vary based on events)

Description: Under general direction of the Administrative Coordinator, the Part Time Teller counts, tracks and reconciles daily cash receipts and prepares daily banks. Essential duties include investigating and reporting on cash discrepancies and back up to Receptionist as well as assisting other Administrative Dept. functions as assigned.
Requirements:
We are looking for a positive team player, who excels at guest service. Basic cashier and/or teller experience needed.
Qualified candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent; have prior experience using MS Office; and effective oral and written communication skills. The ability to access all areas of the facility, to regularly stand, walk, sit and lift 30 lbs in the course of normal duty is necessary.
Compensation:
$10-12/hour, DOE.


Position: Membership Clerk  (Part-Time) - 2 positions

Schedule: 20-25 hours/work week. One position must include Sunday, the other must include Monday. May include some evenings for events.

Description: Are you a positive, organized, detail-oriented individual who has strong communication skills, and enjoys engaging with people of all ages? Under general direction of the Director of Membership, and the Director of Guest Services, the Membership Clerk is responsible for supporting the Membership Team by entering Membership data, putting together Membership card packages to mail out, answering Membership questions via phone, email, and in person, and performing various tasks as assigned. The Membership Clerk is also responsible for supporting the Guest Services team by assisting with phones.

Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma. Must have a positive attitude and be willing to represent the Santa Barbara Zoo's wholesome, family-friendly brand, and support the Zoo's
mission. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, have strong communication skills, written comprehension, speech clarity, speech recognition, inductive reasoning, and strong customer service skills. Experience with Raiser's Edge or other database software, a plus. Must have at least 1 year experience working in an office setting, preferably in the customer service field.
Compensation:
$9.00/hour


Job Title: Face Painting Artist (Part-Time)
Schedule: Flexible, 25-hours per week, incl. week-ends,
holidays and for special events.
Description: Do you enjoy creating memorable experiences for others? Are you passionate about the natural world and its living
creatures? Do you like to share your passion and artistic talents with others? We are looking for a creative, outgoing artist who will contribute to enhance our guest experience. Under general direction of the Director of Guest Services, the Face Painting Artist will wow our guests by providing family-friendly face painting designs.
Requirements: Min. 1 year experience in Face Painting & artistic talent. Must be able to provide quality Face Painting in a short time-frame in a potentially fast paced environment. Must be patient, responsible, service oriented, outgoing, with a natural aptitude to relate positively with children. Must have FUN doing face painting. also have the ability to work outdoors, access all areas of the facility and negotiate the zoo work environment. Applicant must complete a succesful DOJ background check.
Compensation: $10/hour


Job Title: Guest Service Operations Coordinator (Full-Time)
Description: Do you have high energy and a passion for serving customers? Are you a person who is organized, detail-oriented, and loves working outdoors in a fun, challenging environment? If so, the Guest Service Operations Coordinator may be the position for you.

Under the direction of the Director of Guest Services, the Guest Service Operations Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative support for the Guest Service Department by working with the Guest Experience Specialist program, team, and its directors. This includes enforcing and improving customer service standards; encouraging staff to achieve high customer service goals; booking, scheduling, tracking, and coordinating birthday parties and group reservations; as well as, coordinating and executing assignments of the Guest Services Department during special or private events. The Guest Service Operations Coordinator is also responsible for scheduling staff and responding to guest and colleague inquiries in a timely manner.
Requirements: Must have a positive, energetic, outgoing personality in addition to a strong sense of team work. Must exel at time management and have successful interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, high level of professionalism, and be detail-oriented. Must have strong communication and leadership skills. Must excel at reading and writing comprehension, critical thinking, analytics, active listening, self and subordinate monitoring, active learning, exceptional judgment and decision making. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, with ability to type minimum of 45 WPM and to work in a shared office environment with interruptions. 2 years of supervisory and sales experience is preferred. Schedule will include occasional week ends, holidays and evenings for scheduled events.

Compensation: $14.00/hour   


Job Title: Show Actor (Part-Time)

Schedule: School breaks, Weekends, Holidays and Scheduled Events.

Description: Under the general direction of the Director of Marketing, Show Actor will perform on stage as part of the cast of our show "Dino Doc". The stage show is a behind-the-scenes look at how the experts at the Santa Barbara Zoo care for animals. The show runs twice daily for up to 20 minutes on the Zoo's Rolling Hill Stage. Show Actor accompanies Character Performers during show and meet and greet, ensuring safety and show quality, assisting guests with requests, answering guests questions and other guest service related jobs as needed.

Requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age. Outgoing personality with positive attitude required. Will represent the Santa Barbara Zoo's wholesome, family-friendly brand on stage before large numbers of people and on occasionaal appearances in the community. Must be comfortable approaching guests and initiating conversations. Applicant must be willing to undergo acting training and rehearsal , and follow instructions from Director. Must be able to stand/walk for up to two continuous hours and access all aras of the facility. Previous stage experience through theater, music or dance is a plus!

Compensation: $10.00/hour  


Job Title: Dino Actor (Part-Time)

Schedule: Every weekend and holidays, special events, any time between 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Description: Can you bring a roaring, chomping, blinking, running, growling Dinosaur back to life? Do you want to delight over 200,000 people in a terrific new stage show this year? The Dino Actor will perform on stage as part of the cast of our new show "Dino Doc." The stage show is a behind the scenes look at how the experts at the Santa Barbara Zoo care for animals, and will run up to three times daily for up to 20-minutes on the Rolling Hill Stage. The actor will perform inside an amazing, one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art dinosaur costume designed by a world-class Hollywood special effects studio.

Requirements: Must be at least 17 years old. T-Rex costume requires applicant to be at least 5'10" in height and able to carry a 75-pound backpack device for at least 20 minutes at a time. Applicant must be comfortable with tight spaces and wearing such a costume. Stage, dance, gymnastic and/or athletic experience a plus! Outgoing personality with positive attitude and excellent interpersonal and communication skills required. Must be willing to undergo acting training and rehearsal, and follow instructions from Director. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, and manipulate basic tools.
