Job Title: Private Event Host (Seasonal, Part-Time)
Schedule: Some week-ends, daytime, and evenings (Part-Time)
Description: In conjunction with a team of Event Hosts, the Private Event Host is responsible for overseeing daytime and/or evening events. Must
ensure our events are an enjoyable, wonderful, and safe experience for our guests by providing support services.
We are seeking outgoing, motivated, and detail-oriented individuals interested in getting experience in the events industry. Must have excellent verbal & written communication and time management skills. Must have the ability to work well in a team in a fast-paced environment, while multi-tasking under time constraints. At least one year of paid customer service experience is required. Must have the ability to access all areas of the facility and the ability to negotiate the Zoo work environment, standing up to four hours in a row (x2) on your feet, occasionally lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Compensation: $9.00/hour


Job Title: Guest Experience Specialist, a.k.a. GES (Part-Time)
Schedule: Week-ends and week days, any time between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Some
holidays, school breaks, and some evenings for scheduled events.
Description: Are you interested in getting involved in our conservation efforts? Does helping others make your day? Do you like the outdoors and working with children and their
families? Do you feel comfortable and excited in engaging in conversations with guests? Under general direction of the Director of Guest Services, Director of Retail Operations or Director of Food Services, Guest Experience Specialist facilitates a positive guest experience by providing excellent service to all visiting the Santa Barbara Zoo.
Requirements: Applicants must be minimum 14 years of age (Work permit required for 17 and under, unless graduated from high school). Outgoing personality with positive attitude required. Customer Service and Cash Handling experience a must! Applicant must be able to stand/walk for up to two continuous hours and access all areas of
the facility. Must be able to work week days, some week-ends, holidays, school breaks, and some evenings when events are scheduled.


Job Title: Marketing Coordinator (Full-Time)

Schedule: Monday - Friday, including some evenings, week-ends and holidays for special events and annual events.
Description: Assist in general marketing duties such as: web page and social media monitoring and content creation, graphics creation, design and production, video and photography for documentation. Hands on support in special events and annual events, as well as communications with current and potential event sponsors and donors.
Requirements: College experience preferred. Must have minimum one year paid experience in customer service, marketing or event planning, working knowledge
of graphic design and efficient use of social media tools (Face Book, Twitter, Pinterest...), experience using photo editing software, using Mac equipment & software. Basic working understanding of Photoshop, InDesign or Final Cut is preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to meet deadlines. Successful applicants will be outgoing, self-motivated, responsible, very organized, and must enjoy working effectively and efficiently in a fast paced, friendly, collaborative open space with constant interruptions
and conversations going on in the background. Must demonstrate initiative, be a problem solver. Must be able to work some week-ends, holidays, and evenings when events are scheduled. Must have the ability to work outdoors, access all areas of the facility and negotiate the zoo work environment.

Compensation: $14/hour

Job Title: Educator (Part-Time)
Typically between the hours of 10 AM-2 PM, Monday-Friday, including occasional nights and/or week-ends
Description: Do you enjoy creating memorable experiences for others? Would you enjoy sharing your passion for animals with the general public? Are you looking for a unique and fulfilling part-time job? If so, we want you as part of our education team! Educator facilitates a variety of educational experiences within the Zoo, including the Zoo Safari overnight program, the giraffe feeding deck, school programs, and more. Responsibilities include leading a wide variety of program activities while ensuring the safety of our guests and animals.
Applicants must be minimum 18 years of age and available all weekends, holiday, and at least 1 weekday per week. Successful applicants will be responsible, outgoing, fun-loving team players with a positive attitude and experience working with children. Some college coursework in education, science, or related fields is preferred. Must have the ability to work outdoors, access all areas of the facility and negotiate the zoo work environment. Applicants must complete a DOJ background check and be First Aid and CPR certified prior to beginning work.

Job Title: Maintenance Technician: Horticulture (Full-time)

Schedule: Wednesday-Sunday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Description: Are you a team player with a green thumb and light construction experience? Do you like to work outdoors?
Under general direction of the Director of Facilities & Horticulture, and Assistant Director of Facilities & Horticulture, Maintenance Technician: Horticulture performs direct maintenance and light construction for Zoo facilities, and ensures that the Zoo gardens and grounds meet the Zoo's presentation standards for cleanliness and maintenance.
Requirements: Must have a High school diploma or GED and two years' paid experience in horticulture, general maintenance position, or equivalent. A forklift certification and a valid California driver's license with good driving record are desirable. Must work well in a team, have effective oral and written communication skills, ability to interact with the public, and be competent in the use of all common hand and power tools Must have the ability to access all areas of the facility and be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including electric cart, forklift, and two-way radio. Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally and 20 or fewer pounds frequently. This position involves working out-of-doors in all weather conditions.
Compensation: $10-12/hour, DOE

Position: Keeper: Elephants (Full-Time)

Schedule: Thursday thru Monday, 7:00am to 4:00pm

Description: The Santa Barbara Zoo is seeking a keeper for our Elephant Team. The person filling this position will carry out all basic aspects of the daily care of the elephants, including, but not limited to: training, enrichment, maintenance of exhibits, and enhancing the guest experience. This position is part of a dynamic and progressive Animal Care team.
Requirements: A strong teamwork ethic and proven enthusiasm is required. You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., and be able to work in a strenuous work environment (near the beach). A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred. A minimum of 2 years large mammal experience at an AZA-accredited institution required. Pachyderm experience is preferred. The ideal candidate would welcome the challenge of regularly participating in the zoo's local field conservation activities including California condor, island fox, and local herp species.
Compensation: The position may be filled at the keeper, or senior keeper level DOE, with wages ranging from $14 to $17/hour.

Job Title: Face Painting Artist (Part-Time)
Schedule: Flexible, 25-hours per week, incl. week-ends,
holidays and for special events.
Description: Do you enjoy creating memorable experiences for others? Are you passionate about the natural world and its living
creatures? Do you like to share your passion and artistic talents with others? We are looking for a creative, outgoing artist who will contribute to enhance our guest experience. Under general direction of the Director of Guest Services, the Face Painting Artist will wow our guests by providing family-friendly face painting designs.
Requirements: Min. 1 year experience in Face Painting & artistic talent. Must be able to provide quality Face Painting in a short time-frame in a potentially fast paced environment. Must be patient, responsible, service oriented, outgoing, with a natural aptitude to relate positively with children. Must have FUN doing face painting and have the ability to work outdoors, access all areas of the facility and negotiate the zoo work environment. Applicant must complete a successful DOJ background check.
Compensation: $10/hour
