Job Title: Guest Services Operations Supervisor (Full Time)
Schedule: Thursday– Monday, holidays, and some evenings, usually between hours of 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Schedule may change, based on business needs.
Description: Under general direction of the Director of Guest Services and Guest Services Coordinator, the Guest Services Operations Supervisor oversees Guest Services front line operations, assists in: planning and developing assigned programs; supervising Guest Experience Specialists staffing (GES); oversees Show and show crew (may participate in the show as needed), and focuses on creating positive guest experiences for all visitors. The Guest Services Operations Supervisor encourages, supports, and exemplifies the highest standards to ensure the professionalism of the GES staff so we provide an outstanding Guest Experience to all visiting the Santa Barbara Zoo.
Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have 2 year of supervisory experience in the customer service field, prior cash handling and project management experience. Prior acting experience and stage management experience preferred. Strong team work and self-motivation, as well as an outgoing positive personality are required. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and capability to multi-task effectively and efficiently. Working knowledge of MS Office, attention to detail and excellent time management are necessary. Must be able to work in shared office with constant interruptions, as well as outdoors, accessing most areas of the facility. Must be able to exert force and to lift, push or pull, or otherwise move objects that may exceed 25 lbs occasionally. Ability to work week-ends and holidays.
Position: Security Guard: Swing Shift (Part-Time)
Schedule: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 4:30 pm to 12:30 am
Description: All-weather foot patrol opportunity for a "night-owl", who enjoys working outdoors and with minimal
supervision. Under general direction of the Director of Safety and Security, the Security Guard patrols the Zoo grounds on a regular basis throughout the shift. Responds in a timely and professional manner to a wide variety of routine and emergency situations.
Requirements: High school graduate or any equivalent occupation, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Successful completion of a CA Department of Justice criminal background check is required. Current CA Guard Card preferred.
Valid California drivers license with good driving record is desirable. First Aid and CPR certification preferred. Ability to use independent judgment in handling routine as well as emergency situations. Capacity to perform under stress when confronted to an emergency, unusual or dangerous situation. Ability to oversee and monitor conditions and to promote and exercise safety precautions. Ability to interact and communicate with the general public in a courteous and friendly manner. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to walk and remain on feet a full shift (up to 8 hours), and potentially up to 16 hours at a time. Must be able to exert a minimum of 25 pounds of force and able to lift, push or pull, or otherwise move objects that may exceed 25 lbs. Ability to negotiate all areas of the Zoo in all weather conditions.

Position: Keeper: Elephants
Schedule: Thursday thru Monday, 7:00am to 4:00pm
Description: The Santa Barbara Zoo is seeking a keeper for our Elephant Team.The person filling this position will carry out all basic aspects of the daily care of the elephants, including, but not limited to: training, enrichment, maintenance of exhibits, and enhancing the guest experience. This position is part of a dynamic and progressive Animal Care team.
Requirements: A strong teamwork ethic and proven enthusiasm is required. You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, and be able to work in a strenuous work environment (near the beach). A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred. A minimum of 2 years large mammal experience at an AZA-accredited institution required. Pachyderm experience is preferred. The ideal candidate would welcome the challenge of regularly participating in the zoo's local field conservation activities including California condor, island fox, and local herp species.
Compensation: The position may be filled at the keeper, or senior keeper level DOE, with wages ranging from $14 to $17/hr.

Position: Receptionist, Week-End
Schedule: Saturday & Sunday, 9:00AM-4:00PM
Description: The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, positive, organized individual who has strong verbal communication skills, and enjoys engaging with people of all ages. Under general direction of the Director of of Guest Services, the week-end Receptionist is responsible for assisting with phones and other clerical duties.
Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age and be willing to represent the Santa Barbara Zoo's wholesome, family-friendly brand, and support the Zoo's mission. Must have strong strong customer service skills and be a problem solver. Prior experience working in an office setting, preferably in the customer service field and using the phone.
Compensation: $9.00 per hour
Job Title: Face Painting Artist (Part-Time)
Schedule: Flexible, 25-hours per week, incl. week-ends,
holidays and for special events.

creatures? Do you like to share your passion and artistic talents with others? We are looking for a creative, outgoing artist who will contribute to enhance our guest experience. Under general direction of the Director of Guest Services, the Face Painting Artist will wow our guests by providing family-friendly face painting designs.
Requirements: Min. 1 year experience in Face Painting & artistic talent. Must be able to provide quality Face Painting in a short time-frame in a potentially fast paced environment. Must be patient, responsible, service oriented, outgoing, with a natural aptitude to relate positively with children. Must have FUN doing face painting and have the ability to work outdoors, access all areas of the facility and negotiate the zoo work environment. Applicant must complete a succesful DOJ background check.
